Callaway Hills Animal Shelter

By fostering dogs of difficult-to-place breeds or those in need of medical care, we hope to lower the number of dogs in Missouri who are put down needlessly and get them ready for adoption into loving homes.

The Jefferson City Animal Shelter holds stray animals for either five days (without identification upon intake) or ten working days (identification such as a microchip, rabies tag or ID tag present on intake).

There is space at our shelter for about 40 dogs and 20 cats. We regrettably do not provide no-kill shelter. The majority of the animals we receive are stray, so we only have a limited understanding of them outside of what we discover from our interactions with them here.

The Central Missouri Humane Society, in operation continuously since 1943, advocates for the welfare of companion animals, or pets that improve the lives of their owners.

We assist in helping them locate their last residence so they can live out their heydays as they should. We also offer compassionate end-of-life care to individuals who require it, ensuring that they know they are loved at least in their final moments.
