Since November 2009, the Blount County Animal Shelter, which is a part of the Blount County Animal Center Complex, has been ensuring the welfare of both animals and people in Blount County, Tennessee.

The Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation (SMACF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2007, is working with the Blount County government to build an innovative animal care facility that will cost $1.6 million.

Since November 2009, Blount County Animal Center Complex, which includes the Blount County Animal Shelter, has been safeguarding the welfare of both animals and people in Blount County, Tennessee.

Nationwide, 6 million dogs and cats are brought into shelters each year. About half of them will be put to death due to a lack of resources rather than illness or aggression problems.
