Pawmetto Lifeline

Over $3 million in taxes are spent annually in an effort to reduce the number of stray animal populations. In Lexington and Richland Counties, there were approximately 26,000 homeless dogs and cats entering municipal shelters at the time Pawmetto Lifeline launched in 1999, and 96% of these animals were routinely put to death due to a lack of knowledge and resources. Most of these animals are healthy, treatable, and adoptable. The leaders of Pawmetto Lifeline have developed a solution due to the lack of resources in the Midlands and the conviction that killing a domesticated population in order to manage it is morally wrong.
