The Hearts of Hancock Humane Society was founded with the goals of ending animal suffering, preventing cruelty to animals, and promoting humane education. The society's policy is to seek acceptable homes for abandoned animals, humane care and treatment for cats and dogs in need of protection in the society's service area, and the return of lost pets to their owners.

Animal control for Clay County was outsourced out to non-profit 501c3 Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter (CCARS). Although it doesn't even pay the entire cost of maintaining animal control, the animal control contract is well-known "money loser" in Clay County.
