To ensure the humane treatment and wellbeing of all animals by using rescue, training, adoption, advocacy, and education. Since its inception in 1969, GHHS has been financially supported by kind private donations, grants, and regional alliances.

At Lifeline Pet Save, we value the opportunity to rescue animals and want to appropriately place healthy, stable animals in good, long-term, loving homes. Additionally, we support responsible pet ownership, humane education, and the spaying and neutering of animals. We always make an effort to assist any animal in need and do not discriminate based on breed or species.

The Ark was incorporated as a non-profit, “no kill” animal shelter on March 6, 1990 by Nina Beal.

We have the ambitious but doable aim of saving every homeless animal in Alabama...by lowering the number of animals put to death in shelters and lowering the number of animals living on the streets in Alabama's neighborhoods. They all deserve our assistance!

Animal control officials in Athens and Limestone County, as well as residents who find stray animals or can no longer care for their pets, bring nearly 4,000 dogs and cats to the Athens Limestone Animal Shelter every year. Every attempt is made to find each and every adoptable dog and cat loving, forever homes as well as to reconnect missing animals with their family.
