Humane Society of South Mississippi

We are a Southern Mississippi-based 501c3 animal rescue organization dedicated to rescuing pit bulls and pit bull hybrids. However, we will assist anyone in need without regard to breed.

The mission of the Hancock County Animal Shelter is to encourage responsible pet ownership, safeguard the health and wellbeing of our locals, and ensure the safety and compassionate treatment of all animals. Our goal is to move healthy animals while ferociously providing temporary sanctuary for stray, unwanted, or abandoned animals. All adopted animals must undergo a health checkup, shots, and a necessary spay or neuter procedure as part of our program. Under the direction of a certified veterinarian, all activities are carried out by humane and professional employees in accordance with all applicable state, federal, and local rules and regulations.

The only animal shelter in the county is the Jackson County Animal Shelter, which opened its doors in 1985. On three acres off Highway 90 in Gautier, it is situated next to the County soccer complex on Audubon Lane.

The Stone County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a registered charity with the state of Mississippi and a recognized IRS 501c3 charitable organization. The Jeanne H. Miller Animal Shelter is run by the Stone County SPCA for the county's stray cats and canines. Our animal shelter has a live release rate of 97% in 2020 because of your help, and since it opened, no animals have been put to death for lack of space.

Dedicated to promoting the welfare and humane treatment of animals throughout the county is the Pearl River County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Mississippi.
