Successful functioning depends on caring for unwanted and stray animals and eliminating rabies from the city's animal population.

BPCR saves homeless, abandoned, neglected, unloved, or injured cats and kittens as well as cats and kittens that are scheduled for euthanasia. All cats and kittens that enroll in the BPCR program receive emergency medical attention, FeLV and FIV testing, spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and secure shelter until they may be adopted into a permanent home or sanctuary.

Australian Shepherds and Australian Shepherd hybrids are the focus of NTASR, a 501c3 nonprofit animal rescue organization.

Animal Services' main goal is to safeguard the welfare, health, and safety of both people and animals living in the city.
