Washington Square Veterinary Clinic

After graduating from Cornell Veterinary School in 1927, Dr. Walter E Brandner relocated to Petaluma and founded an animal hospital in the Rex Hardware building on the corner of Fourth and B Streets, as well as taking over the leadership of the Petaluma Laboratories, which had been established in 1923. The Petaluma Laboratories were relocated out of town in 1931, and the new Brandner Laboratory and Hospital was established in the same location. In 1949, Dr. Brandner contacted San Francisco architect Mario Corbett, who also constructed the Hope Lutheran Church in Daly City, to create the drawings for the structure at Second and D Streets. A laboratory, retail sales rooms, and boarding facilities for up to 50 dogs were all part of the original veterinary facility. 

Since 1946, PVH has served Petaluma, Penngrove, Cotati, Rohnert Park, and Sonoma County as a family-owned small animal hospital. The A.E.Z.R. PET HOSPITAL is a division of the A.E.Z.R. Veterinary Practice, which began more than 40 years ago when "cows outnumbered the joggers so many moon years ago." Addison Street Veterinary Hospital was the name of the clinic at the time, and it was located on Addison Street near the University of California Berkeley. Cows were never spotted roaming about this urban neighbourhood when it was founded in the late 1970s. Seven veterinary buddies owned and ran the Addison Street Veterinary Hospital. These seven veterinarians eventually opted to open their own clinics, leaving Dr. Emilio to handle the Berkeley pet hospital. He drove from Petaluma to Berkeley every day. His wife, Ampy, and two children, Rex and Zandra, would assist him with the farm on weekends.
