Animal Wellness Veterinary Center is a full-service, holistic small animal hospital. Rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, hedgehogs, hamsters, ferrets, and sugar gliders are among the little exotic mammals we observe. We have clients from Norwalk, Wilton, Weston, Easton, Westport, Fairfield, Darien, Greenwich, Stamford, New Canaan, and Ridgefield, but we also have people from all over the country. We are enamored with nature and its amazing qualities, and we want to aid rather than hinder health and recovery. Dr. George Alfson (Cornell '40) created the Norwalk Veterinary Hospital in 1942, which was located further north on Post Road in Norwalk. Paul Kahl (Cornell '40), a classmate of Dr. Alfson's, joined him in practice in 1950. Because there were still dairy farms in the area at the time, the partners had to look after both large and small animals. Following the purchase of an existing boarding kennel in 1955, the practice was relocated to its current location. In the middle of a peach and apple orchard, there were four distinct buildings. One of the structures was turned into a hospital. A boarding kennel, a cattery with outdoor runs, and an old farmhouse where McDonald's now stands were among the others.
