Dr. Robert Lofton and his wife Lela bought a little mobile home in the fall of 1974, made some improvements, put out a shingle, and the University Animal Clinic was established. The goal has always been to be accessible, to perform high-quality medicine, and to provide extremely excellent care to both clients and their dogs. Based on the fundamental tenet, University Animal Clinic quickly outgrew the first clinic and relocated into the current location in 1976. Dr. Michael Woodward, an honors graduate of Auburn University, joined the firm in 1978 and later was made a partner. Following her graduation from LSU in 1993, Dr. Karen Goeckel joined the UAC staff and, together with Dr. Woodward, was named Co-Managing DVM in 2013. The philosophy has evolved over time.

We also provide diagnostic services that include an in-house laboratory and imaging equipment, enabling us to deliver timely, precise results for effective therapy. Dr. Randy Farr founded Farr Veterinary Hospital in 1985 after working as a practicing veterinarian in the Lake Charles region since 1977. As the business expanded, Dr. Farr and Dr. Jae H. Chang joined forces in 2010. The current focus is Prien Lake Animal Hospital.
