Two veterinarians, veterans of the armed forces, and friends founded Animal Medical Center in August of 1958. After receiving their Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Kansas State University in 1956, Dr. Bill LaRue, a native of Chanute, Kansas, and Dr. Don McReynolds, of Osborne County, Kansas, decided to start their own big and small animal clinic in southeast Kansas.
While Dr. McReynolds concentrated on growing the large animal practice, Dr. La Rue concentrated on expanding the small animal practice. They have continued to evolve with new technologies over the years, including surgical procedures, digital imaging, and ultrasound. They have only ever lagged behind Kansas State University in terms of veterinary medicine innovation.
