Simon was my first canine companion. He was six months old when I rescued him from the pound. I didn't find out what was legally allowed in dog food until he was nine years old. I was both surprised and annoyed. I discovered not only deceptive labels, hazardous chemical preservatives, and revolting "ingredients," but also an unregulated industry. One that is severely damaged.

Centinela Feed & Pet Supplies

We started out as a modest shop in Mar Vista at 4307 Centinela Avenue. Al Barnes, co-owner of the Carson and Barnes circus, intended to build his own city in 1926. The municipal hall for Barnes City was the site of Centinela Feed's future headquarters. Barnes City existed for a year before being absorbed by Los Angeles. But it was long enough for the structure to be designated as a historical landmark.
