To pursue a career with a nearby seed firm, Ken Hester Sr. relocated from Seattle to Spokane in 1946 with his wife Frieda and two young sons. They adored Spokane, so Hester bought Northwest Seed & Pet in 1954. Early in the 1970s, Hester's two sons joined the company, and the name was changed to Northwest Seed & Pet. Hester Sr. passed the company to his sons in 1979. In 1983, the brothers made the quick decision to grow the company by opening a second site on North Division.
