My first dog was Simon. When he was only six months old, I rescued him from the pound. I didn't find out what was authorized to be in dog food until he was nine years old. I was taken aback and furious. I discovered not only deceptive labels, hazardous chemical preservatives, and repulsive "ingredients," but also an industry that is completely self-regulated. One with a lot of flaws.
