Zamzows has long been renowned in the Treasure Valley as an outstanding garden and pet supply company, but few are aware of its rich past. It all began in 1933 with a botched train stop, when brothers August and Carl Zamzow sneaked away aboard a train from Minnesota to California. August got off the train in Meridian to get some lunch for them, but the train took off before he could get back on. August soon found jobs and planted roots after becoming stranded in Meridian. He married Carmalita House, who would eventually become known as Grandma Z.
