To enjoy the country lifestyle, Mary and Bob Hourihan relocated to Asheville's mountains. Mary always had a lot of pets at home and reasoned that owning the store would be less expensive than purchasing all of their food. She has always loved the family tradition of working in retail. In the 1950s, Louis Dunlap, her father, owned the general store in Elk Park, North Carolina. She has always supported a holistic approach to caring for animals. She discovered that many foods had chemicals, additives, and inferior components.
