Andy Anderson founded Andy's Hardware in 1959. Andy was well-known for having the seemingly impossible in his store. He adored auctions and made them a regular part of his business. Andy died in 1984, leaving the business to his son Arvin.
Arvin joined Ace Hardware in 1986 and totally rebuilt the store, contributing to the company's annual growth. In 1994, he decided it was time to "semi-retire" and hand over the reins to his daughter Stephanie, which she dutifully accomplished!
Stephanie maintained the business thriving, but it was gradually outgrowing the previous store space. Finally, in 2007, she constructed a fresh new 20,000 square foot store, which was more than twice the size of the previous one. Now comes the fun part:

Our Gift Shop is open throughout zoo hours, but there is no need to purchase admission or enter the zoo to shop. We have a separate door for people who just want to buy a present and leave.

The Alaska Bird Club is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. Food and vet care for our foster parrots, as well as equipment storage, insurance, voice-mail phone service, and web hosting, are all costly. Donations and club membership are two ways you can support our activities.

Fresh wild Alaskan salmon, cod, halibut, and rockfish are the only fish we utilize. The bones, livers, and skins are all included.
WE INCLUDE VEGETABLES GROWN IN ALASKA. In the winter, we utilize Alaska Grown carrots, red beets, and potatoes, while in the summer, we use barley and fresh seasonal greens. We also used LOCALLY-RESOURCED Alaska Grown animal goods such as fresh chicken eggs, beef organs (liver, heart, kidney, tongue when available), hog, sheep, goat organs, and Alaska Grown goat milk. We do have a limited amount of Alaska Grown raw beef meats and bones from local ranchers.
