Hundreds of animals, including cats, bunnies, and guinea pigs, received blessings in a drive-through and in-person ceremony from a priest who sprinkled them with holy water at the park beside a shopping mall where the canine lovers took the plunge.
It was the first in-person celebration of World Animal Day since the epidemic. World Animal Day is observed on October 4 and is also the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. It is a day set aside to highlight animal rights and welfare around the world.
Pet blessings are significant to us because they provide protection, direction from the Lord, and, most importantly, a chance for long life and excellent health, according to Paula Pacis, who had her five Shih Tzus blessed.
