The OCHS Pet Grief Group will now meet on Wednesdays.
Starting this week, the Oregon Coast Humane Society's weekly Pet Grief Group meetings will be held on Wednesdays instead of Fridays, as a result of community requests. The next meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20th. The meetings are still being facilitated by Constance Castaneda, LCSW.
The number of the gatherings has changed, but they have all remained small and intimate. When new participants are ready, they are invited to attend. Members frequently post tales and photos about their dogs, but participation is entirely voluntary, and members are free to share as much or as little as they choose. Some folks simply like to sit and listen to others who are going through a difficult time.
It's reassuring to realize what an individual process it is to lose a pet, according to CHS Executive Director Elizabeth Thompson. "As we talk about our dogs, some of us are discovering additional losses - whether it's the loss of a pet when a relationship ends, or the dread of knowing an animal is nearing the end." Every week, after talking through these emotions, I leave feeling better."
The Oregon Coast Humane Society Thrift Store is next to The Vintage House at 1179 Bay Street, where the Pet Grief Group meets. Attendance is free, however gifts to OCHS are encouraged.
