Petco Love has donated $1 million to organizations that help shelters, rescues, and dogs and pet families who have been affected by the conflict in Ukraine. The monies will also be used to help with future recovery efforts and other needs.
"It's heartbreaking to witness families seeking sanctuary as they flee war-torn places. "The entire Petco family is pained by the suffering and moved by the love Ukrainians have for their dogs, which they often carry as they escape their homes and country for safety," said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love, in a statement. 1
"As a result, we came together as a company to rally our employees and customers to help save pets and support Ukrainian pet owners who have been affected by the war." We pledge $1 million in help for urgent relief and long-term recovery out of love "she continued.
Prior to the war, groups that received funding from Petco Love (such as Humane Society International and FOUR PAWS International) worked with rescues and shelters all around Ukraine and in neighboring European Union (EU) nations. Since the military incursion around a month ago, these nonprofit organizations have been addressing the mounting needs to ensure pet health and welfare.
In addition, animal shelters and border refugee support centers in neighboring countries require supplies, products, and veterinary care for family pets entering EU countries, according to the announcement.
