Is it possible for your pet to contract COVID-19?
The coronavirus that causes COVID-19 may infect dogs and other animals, but health experts believe the chance of it transmitting to humans is minimal.
Dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, otters, hyenas, and white-tailed deer are among the animals that have tested positive for the virus, which they acquired from sick people in the majority of instances.
While you don't have to be concerned about your pets acquiring COVID-19, they should be concerned about acquiring it from you. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 should avoid contact with pets, agricultural animals, and wildlife, as well as other humans.
"If you wouldn't go near another person because you're sick or you might be exposed, don't go near another animal," says Dr. Scott Weese at Ontario Veterinary College.
