In Port Orange, a pet dog was mauled by two coyotes.
Shafer resides west of US Highway 1 on Spruce Creek Road. She said that a security video from Thursday showed her neighbor's dog being mauled by two coyotes after the owners let the dog out about 5 a.m. The coyotes are seen around the dog in the footage. The dog was injured and had to be treated by a veterinarian, but he is expected to recover. Shafer wants to make people aware that coyotes have been known to attack pets. She claims she won't take her dog on long walks, particularly between dark and morning, when coyotes are most active.
