Guilford County Animal Services gets $50k to help families keep pets
NEW HAMPSHIRE (WGHP) — Guilford County Animal Services received a large grant to help families keep pets.
Maddie's Fund, a national foundation working to change how pets are viewed and cared for, awarded Guilford County Animal Services a $50,000 grant.
This grant will allow GCAS to launch a Human-Animal Support Services pilot program that treats pets as family members. HASS pilot shelters help pets stay with their owners, find their way home, and help owners care for their pets.
During the pandemic, there was concern that the economic impact of the pandemic might force people to give up their pets.
This grant from Maddie's Fund will help us reach more Guilford County residents and their pets. We value keeping pets with their families and are excited to expand our efforts through the HASS pilot program, said Jorge Ortega, Director of Guilford County Animal Services.
GCAS says funds will also be used to free vaccinate and microchip pets.
A national voice, funding opportunities, learning resources, and easy access to network and share ideas for keeping people and pets together.
