Austin Pets Alive! celebrates its 100,000th pet rescue, a big milestone.
AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) – On Tuesday, Austin Pets Alive! celebrated its 100,000th pet rescue, a significant achievement.
Dr. Ellen Jefferson, president and CEO of Austin Pets Alive!, said, It's a significant milestone for us, and honestly one we didn't even think about when we first started.
On Tuesday, Austin City Council members Kathie Tovo and Leslie Pool joined APA! staff and volunteers in issuing a special proclamation recognizing the achievement.
Thank you very much, Austin Pets Alive! Council Member Tovo, whose district includes APA!, praised APA! for really helping make Austin into a no-kill city and the largest no-kill city in the country.
The Official of Austin's city shelter had an 85 percent death rate 13 years ago. Animals now have a 97 percent chance of surviving their stay in the shelter.
Copper, APA100,000th !'s rescue, was treated at their facility for parvo. Copper's previous owner was unable to pay for his medical bills, and he was surrendered to the Austin Animal Shelter.
That animal would have been euthanized in the past, according to Dr. Jefferson. As a result, we developed specialist programs like the parvo treatment center to address extremely specific issues that lead to animals being placed on euthanasia lists at shelters.
Copper has already been adopted, but there will be 17 more puppies available in the coming days who are being treated for parvo.
Dr. Jefferson stated that APAnext !'s goal is to move to a new location because their current buildings are over 70 years old. They've made offers on a number of properties and are awaiting feasibility assessments.
In recognition of reaching this momentous milestone, Austin Pets Alive! is inviting supporters to sign up as Constant Companions and make a monthly commitment.
