According to a survey, most people would rather snuggle with a pet than with their partner.
According to new research, six out of ten people would rather sleep with their pet on their bed or couch than with their partner. Two-thirds of pet owners prefer snuggling with their pets because they believe their pets are calmer and cleaner, according to a survey of 2,000 pet owners.
People may also prefer cuddling with their dogs because, unlike humans, they do not quarrel or judge us, according to Valarie Tynes, a veterinary behaviorist at the SPCA of Texas.
I'm neither a sociologist or a human psychologist, but I believe that people prefer to snuggle with their dogs because they give unconditional love and affection, Tynes added. They're just there for us, and most don't want much in return.
Four out of ten pet owners claim that sleeping with their pet is preferable since their pet does not wake them up to go to the bathroom or disturbs their sleep with snoring.
According to Tynes, the best dog or cat breed for cuddling is one with a deep attachment between the pet and the person. She suggested that if the pet will be sleeping in the bed, a smaller breed would be preferable, but Tynes claimed she shared her bed for ten years with her husband and a 75-pound dog.
Right now, I have an 80-pound dog who believes she's a lap dog, and the absurdity of it all provides me delight, Tynes said. It's beyond special that she thinks nothing of coming into my lap and cuddling up like a baby with her head on my shoulder.
Tynes thinks that the findings will encourage more people to adopt and rescue pets of their own, based on the fact that most people like to snuggle with their pets.
There is nothing quite like the affection you can have with a pet, mTynes added.
