A shelter is hosting a birthday celebration for pets that have never celebrated a real birthday.
This year has been difficult for the Fort Worth Animal Shelter. For most of the year, it has been at or near capacity. Although adoptions are increasing, some of the animals have been in the shelter for months.
Staff and volunteers came up with the idea of throwing a birthday celebration and adoption event for a handful of the shelter's longest-staying dogs.
“We know this will be a fun occasion because many of our creatures have never known their birthday or have misplaced it,” said Anastasia Ramsey, Code Compliance supervisor for shelter operations at the North Animal Campus. “Our objective is to give all of the dogs extra care and help them find the life they deserve.”
The North Animal Campus, 351 Hillshire, will have a birthday party and adoption event from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.
Sundae, Ozzy, Gladys, Rollie, Blaze, and Princess are among the pets shown. But, thanks to Three Dog Bakery and the Cowtown Friends of Fort Worth Animal Care & Control, every dog and cat will get a unique piece of birthday cake.
