A native of Newcomerstown has opened a pet grooming business in West Lafayette.
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN INDIANA — A Newcomerstown resident is opening a grooming and pet boutique to fulfill her goals and her late mother's wishes for a better life for her children.
Haley Vickers grew up with dogs and has owned a ferret, hedgehog, and pig, among other animals. She's always loved animals, but it wasn't until around eight years ago that her passion became a full-fledged business, All Paws on Deck Grooming.
After seeing so many individuals seek for groomers in the last year, I recognized we didn't have as many local groomers as the community could support, and that realization is what sparked my new business plans. Vickers stated, Being myself, I went in headstrong and full force and made it happen.
Growing up in a small place like Newcomerstown and being raised by a single mother who struggled to raise her children provided a lot of motivation.
Some people dislike small towns since everyone knows everyone, but I find it to be the finest location to live for this reason. When people are in need, they rise up and do whatever they can. It's almost as though they're all one huge family "Vickers remarked.
Vickers thinks her mother is looking down on her successes and smiling, even if it's been difficult since her mother passed.
When I saw her struggle, I knew I wanted to endure and achieve my goals so that I would never have to go through that difficulty in life. Despite the difficulties, she was an excellent mother Vickers remarked. However, I've always known she wanted more for her children, which is why I'm so excited about this new business opportunity.
Her best piece of advice to anyone considering starting a business is to just do it.
Keep trying for what you desire, even when things get rough. You are the only one standing in the way of reaching your goals, someone once told me. This is something I've tried to live by since then Vickers remarked. There comes a time in your life when you must accept that saying no to yourself is no longer an option.
Vickers said she's cooperating with a dog trainer for basic obedience training, and a boutique will sell dog-related things from local suppliers in addition to basic grooming services. One groomer has more than 20 years of expertise, while the other has only a few years, and both completed the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers' vet aid program. In the future, Vickers intends to add a cat groomer.
When my clients send off their cherished pet, I want them to know that we will go above and beyond their expectations, Vickers said. A pick-up/delivery service for individuals who are unable to transport their pet for grooming services is something we want to offer shortly.
