A cougar that had been kept as an unlawful pet in a New York City house has been removed.

Animal welfare officials said an 11-month-old female cougar weighing about 80 pounds cougar was removed from a New York City condominium where she was being kept illegally as a pet.

The cougar, known as Sasha, was treated at the Bronx Zoo over the weekend and is currently on its way to the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas, according to officials.

Dermot Shea the police commissioner, said the cougar’s case “is currently under investigation and no further information is available at this time
