A business in Moline 'pays it forward' to local pets in need.
MOLINE, ILLINOIS – If you have pets, you are aware that they can be treated like family members. But what can you do if you're hit with a huge vet bill and don't have the funds to pay it?
A Moline company founded in 2015 tries to close the gaps.
Erin Granet of Rescued was nominated for the Pay It Forward award by Lisa Mahar, who has seen firsthand the amazing work Erin and her colleagues perform every day.
Mahar remarked, She helps individuals who can't afford it. I can't afford to pay for vet costs or vaccinations. These are folks who adore animals but lack the financial means to care for them. As a result, she gladly gives it away. There just isn't anything better than that.
Rescued is a resale shop on Moline's 16th Street. Their business model contains the following elements:
We accept both monetary and non-monetary gifts.
After that, the items are put up for sale.
The funds are then used to Pay It Forward to deserving families.
Getting a monetary donation like this is tremendous... money comes in, it goes out, and it's already spent, Granet added.
The funds will be used to help animals in need. The majority of the people who were rescued grew as a result of word of mouth. Since its inception in 2015, the Rescued team has paid for approximately $422,000 in vet expenses for families in need. More than $120,000 was donated to pets in need in 2021 alone.
Clothing, home decor, and other pet-related donations are accepted by Rescued.
