12 cats died in the Rostraver fire; rescued pets need foster homes.
A fire Friday morning at a Rostraver residence that also served as an animal sanctuary claimed the lives of a dozen cats, according to a Westmoreland County 911 supervisor.
According to the supervisor, when emergency responders arrived on the scene just after 3:45 a.m., the house was engulfed in flames.
According to public safety officials, the house is located near Vernon Drive on Route 51. There were no additional injuries reported.
Wendy Kramer, the home's sole occupant and founder of the non-profit Angels Journey Home Animal Rescue, said she could save 20 more cats and a dozen dogs from the shelter. However, she still needs help with foster care or temporary animal placement.
The house is entirely gone,Kramer explained, but I was able to rent a motel room to transport the animals.Right now, the most critical thing I need is someone with a warm barn where I can put a rescued elder goat.
According to Kramer, donations, which may be made through the shelter's website, are also needed to help care for the remaining animals. Anyone interested in fostering animals can contact Kramer at 412-680-0393.
