On Pier 84, near to the USS Intrepid, there is a small fenced-in dog run with seats, trees, and a water source.

This dog park provides a large area for dogs to run and play. All dogs are welcome as long as they have a current license and immunizations.

Tompkins Square Park was a hazardous location in the mid-1980s, before the community was granted an official dog run, suffering from the bad consequences of rampant drug use and crime that afflicted New York. The founders of First Run refused to give up their park and faced the dangers of the day — as well as City Hall! — to provide a safe gathering spot for their dogs.

Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies under New York State law, and the New York City Health Code requires that every dog owner/attendant carry proof of current dog license and rabies vaccine while in public.

THE WILLOWTOWN ASSOCIATION is a volunteer-based neighborhood organization in the southwest corner of Brooklyn Heights with a long-term commitment to stewardship whose aim is to address issues affecting residents' quality of life and to serve as their collective voice and advocate. We work to preserve and convey our neighborhood's history and architectural heritage, as well as communicate with like-minded organizations and individuals on important concerns. Our main annual events are a lively spring fair in May and a spectacular fall potluck community meeting, which are held at the White Community Center and include guided walking tours of the neighborhood's architectural and cultural past.
