The Seattle Housing Authority gave property for a park as part of the Yesler neighborhood redevelopment. The new park opened in August of 2018. Yesler Terrace Park, with its magnificent vistas of downtown, Elliott Bay, and Mount Rainier, is set to become the neighborhood's new center. The park, which is adjacent to the Yesler Community Center, has something for everyone in its two-acre area. Community activities and a variety of intimately scaled meeting and play places can all be accommodated in a large plaza. Christine Bourdette's sculptural installations honor the community's cultural heritage, and her centerpiece at the central square transforms into a spraypark throughout the summer. The playground beneath the plaza takes advantage of the site's topography by including play structures that span the grade difference.
