Dauphin Island Beach

Pets are welcome at Indian Shell Mound Park. Your history-loving hound can explore this prehistoric monument created by early native Americans. Leashed pets are allowed as long as they are cleaned up after themselves to keep the area tidy.

Audubon Bird Sanctuary allows leashed dogs on the trails. The dog-friendly Sanctuary spans 137 acres and features three miles of trails through maritime forest, marshes, and dunes, as well as a lake, swamp, and beach. It is situated on the eastern end of Dauphin Island, a 14-mile-long barrier island off the coast of Alabama.

At Fort Gaines on Dauphin Island, AL, dogs are welcome to accompany their owners. "Damn the torpedoes!" is a renowned slogan. The fort has original cannons, a blacksmith shop, kitchens, a museum, gift shop, and tunnels. Leashed dogs are welcome but must be cleaned up after.

The Alabama Music Hall of Fame is a pet-friendly museum dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of Alabama's musicians and the state's rich musical heritage. It offers a self-guided tour that allows you to take your time and walk through the museum with your pet. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Adult tickets cost $10. The Alabama Music Hall of Fame is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Love's Travel Stop is a dog-friendly gas station and rest stop in Shorter, Alabama. Love's Travel Stops are located all throughout the United States and provide facilities for traveling dogs. A completely fenced dog park with a convenient waste station is available at this site.

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to establish a countrywide network of trails from former rail lines and linking corridors, supports the Chief Ladiga Trail, which is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the group. This "rail-trail," which was once an abandoned railroad line, is now a terrific spot to walk Petzooie in Jacksonville!
