Chugach State Park in Anchorage, Alaska, is one of the country's four largest state parks, covering almost 500,000 acres. This dog-friendly state park offers a variety of routes for you and your dog to explore. You can also explore the backcountry, which is off the usual route. Except in the backcountry, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and must be under voice control at all times.

Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge is a 2,000-acre wildlife refuge just north of the city center that was previously a historic dairy farm. The miles of well-kept walking and multi-use trails, as well as the pastoral scenery of farm fields and old dairy buildings, will appeal to leashed dogs and their owners. Visitors can enjoy seasonal guided walks, viewing platforms, and a tourist center and gift store within the farmhouse in addition to the trails. Dogs must always be leashed, and owners must clean up after their pets.

The airport is next to this nice off-leash dog park. There's even a pool where your pet can swim! Once the ski-joring paths have been groomed, off-leash activity will be limited to the specified area. Many park users, including skiers, walkers, runners, bikers, and other members of the community, share areas designated for off-leash dog use. Please be respectful and follow proper "petiquette."

The Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve encompasses a national park, a national preserve, wilderness, six wild rivers, and two national natural landmarks, all of which offer isolation, wilderness travel, and adventure to tourists. Wild rivers run through the maze of glaciated valleys and rocky mountains, which are covered with boreal forest and arctic tundra vegetation and home to populations of caribou, Dall sheep, wolves, and bears. Dogs are permitted in the park, but they must be kept on a leash and cleaned up after. Dogs are permitted in the park's wilderness, although there are no man-made paths. Visitors must fly or hike into Gates of the Arctic because it is a wilderness area with no roads or trails into the park lands.

The Lake Lucile Dog Park is open all year. It's a fenced-in space for dogs to run at the Lake Lucile Park entrance that's about 300 feet long and 60 feet wide. During the summer, there is water accessible for the dogs. Although there is limited parking, there is enough of space for Fido to run around, play fetch, and sniff his heart out.

Off-leash pathways are available at University Lake Dog Park in Anchorage, Alaska. On a seasonal basis, several paths in this park may be closed to off-leash use. Trails like these will be well marked. Respect the park's wildlife and other visitors. To protect nesting birds and a particularly active beaver community, swimming by dogs and/or their owners is prohibited. During mating season and when guarding their young, beavers may be rather aggressive.

A dog park, as well as an American Legion baseball field, two little league fields, an RC track, and paintball fields, are available at the South Anchorage Sports Park. With the exception of the dog park, dogs must be leashed in all sections of the park.
