Leashed dogs are welcome in this large park with various paved walks. There is plenty of shade, as well as benches, swings, and other attractions. The Mobile Botanical Gardens are nearby, as well as the Mobile Museum of Art.

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to establish a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and linking corridors, supports the Old Railroad Bed Trail, which is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the group. This "rail-trail," which was once an abandoned railroad line, is now a terrific spot to walk Petzooie in Huntsville! A parking spot with easy access to the Old Railroad Bed Trail is shown on the map below. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has generously provided Petzooie with map data for this trail solely for educational purposes.

Blount Cultural Park is home to nearly 3.5 miles of paved walking routes, multiple ponds, and magnificent statues. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. This 77-acre park also houses the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, which serves as a regional destination for park visitors.

The dog-friendly Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, AL, has over 14 miles of trails for you and your pup to enjoy. Just make sure Fido is on a leash. Dogs are permitted in the campgrounds and two of the cabins for a charge. For safety concerns, several bike and equestrian riding trails do not allow dogs. In stores, food service areas, bathhouses, pools, and swimming areas, dogs are not permitted. Dogs must not be left unattended, and if left in a heated car, they will be confiscated.

Audubon Bird Sanctuary allows leashed dogs on the trails. The dog-friendly Sanctuary spans 137 acres and features three miles of trails through maritime forest, marshes, and dunes, as well as a lake, swamp, and beach. It is situated on the eastern end of Dauphin Island, a 14-mile-long barrier island off the coast of Alabama.

Danielle Juzan Memorial Dog Park in Crawford Park is a small park near downtown with chairs and a fountain (no separate large and little dog areas, but plenty of room to run). Put your dog's leash on after playtime and go for a stroll through the magnificent historic Oakleigh Garden District (through the north entrance). There are sidewalks and plenty of trees to provide shade.

Elberta's Dinosaurs In The Woods is a pet-friendly attraction. Mark Cline was commissioned by eccentric businessman George Barber to make the sculptures. They're strewn throughout the woods near Barber's marina at random. On the roadside route through the woods recognized for lifelike reconstructions of popular dinosaurs, leashed dogs are welcome to accompany you.

Heritage Park is a recreational complex with five championship lighted softball fields, five professional soccer fields, an outdoor basketball court, a beach volleyball court, a multi-purpose athletic field, a water sprinkler play area, a one-half mile paved walking trail, a newly constructed dog park, and an 18-hole frisbee golf course that opened in 1994. The southern entrance has a lovely memorial garden and fountain, while the rest of the 70-acre park has benches and picnic pavilions of various sizes.

Little River Canyon National Preserve offers a wide range of outdoor recreational opportunities to tourists. This relatively new national park offers hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, and other activities. The park welcomes pets, but Petzooie must be leashed at all times.
