In Wooster, Ohio, there is a private, nonprofit animal shelter called the Wayne County Humane Society. Since it is a non-profit, WCHS depends on the assistance of kind contributors and volunteers to fulfill its purpose.

The Wayne County Dog Refuge's goals are to reconnect lost dogs with their owners, give temporary shelter, care, and comfort to all stray, abandoned, neglected, and injured dogs in Wayne County, and to foster a compassionate and accountable community in Wayne County via education and outreach.

The Holmes County Dog Warden's Department is a county-run organization with five main responsibilities.

The Ashland County Humane Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization run entirely by volunteers that is committed to the welfare of animals in the Ashland County region.

Canines brought in by the dog warden or stray dogs are taken in by the Ashland County Dog Shelter. Before being released to the owner or being vaccinated and placed up for adoption, the dogs are detained for a predetermined period of time.
