We can ensure that dogs, cats, and other pets continue to be joyful members of our lives and the lives of others around us by being responsible pet owners.

Six Flags Humane Society was founded in 1963 as the first animal rescue facility in the area by Dorothy Hanna O'Connor (1907-1992), Victoria's most renowned dog and cat carer. The Dorothy H. O'Connor Pet Adoption Center is named in her honor as the organization's successor so that a new generation of Victoria County residents may carry on her mission of providing dogs and cats with humane treatment and facilitating their adoption into loving homes.

A 501c3 non-profit organization based on volunteers and foster homes, Pitty Paws Bully Rescue & Transport was founded in April 2018 with the goal of rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in Texas.

The Calhoun County Humane Society's goals are to place dogs and cats who have been saved from the neighborhood animal control facilities in loving homes and to promote ethical pet ownership through community education.

For the City of Port Lavaca and Calhoun County, the Port Lavaca Animal Control Department is responsible for the capture of stray and nuisance animals, primarily dogs and cats.

Animal control officers frequently pick up dogs and cats, which we continually take in, vaccinate, and care for while looking for their ideal forever homes.
