Shafter Animal Control

Animals that are kept, maintained, or discovered roaming free in violation of any of the provisions of this section may be impounded by the Wasco Animal Control Officers, who also have the authority to enforce all laws, rules, and ordinances pertaining to the control of animals in the city's incorporated areas.

By fostering responsible pet ownership and community resources, combating animal abuse, and creating a secure and healthy environment for lost, abandoned, or homeless animals, Kern County provides humans and dogs with skilled and compassionate animal care.

In order to end the suffering of unwanted cats and kittens, The Cat People was established as a nonprofit in 1990. To assist the abandoned cats and kittens in Hart Park in Kern County, a group of women started working together more than 20 years ago.

The sole no-kill shelter and original animal protection organization in Kern County is the Bakersfield SPCA. Our goal is for there to never again be any healthy companion animals put to death due to a lack of compassion, a home, or space.

Call whenever you are unable to care for your dog any longer, and we will come and pick up the Doberman you bought from us. For the rest of their lives, we always welcome our Dobermans back into our homes!

ALPHA Canine Sanctuary offers homeless dogs a no-kill shelter. The 1995-opened 20-acre ranch is tucked away in the Californian foothills above Bakersfield. An expansive view of the mountains may be seen to the east. Dogs will receive round-the-clock attention and security because caregivers reside on-site. They, the workers and volunteers, give daily care and love.
