Early in the 1970s, Seminole County Animal Services was founded to provide a secure location for stray and abandoned pets as well as municipal legislation to avoid domestic animal nuisances. Today, in addition to enforcing laws, we also offer services like microchipping and rabies vaccines. 

Our mission is to be pioneers in cutting-edge animal care and sheltering while also offering compassionate and knowledgeable services for pets.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of dogs of all ages, breeds, sizes, and conditions who have endured neglect, cruelty, abandonment, or overcrowding in animal shelters with a high kill rate.

We offer community services like free dog training, a pet food pantry, and other forms of assistance to pet owners in need in addition to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals in need.

Since there was no animal control in DeLand at the time, five locals got together in October 1955 to take action against the stray animal problem.

Since the 1950s, the West Volusia Humane Society has operated as a NO-KILL shelter in Deland, Florida, with the goal of protecting all animals.
