In 774 square miles of urban and rural settings, Animal Services provides services to 303,976 residents. We are an open-admission facility that partners with numerous rescue organizations and other shelters to reunite abandoned animals with their owners. Staff and volunteers provide excellent daily care and enrichment, and we collaborate with our neighborhood vets to assist animals in need of more extensive care. In addition, we act as a hub for information on animal behavior and health issues, promote humane living, and manage grants for veterinary costs for animals.

Our aim is to find loving, safe homes for every one of our dogs. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, our ability to carry out our good deeds depends on adoption fees, contributions, grants, fundraisers, and estate bequests. Since it takes a village to save a dog, we are appreciative of the community's help.

A small group of concerned residents established The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, which has now evolved to become one of the biggest animal protection organizations in the state. Every year, we provide care for almost 10,000 animals, help thousands of lost animals find their owners, treat sick and injured shelter animals, and administer extensive, affordable spay-neuter programs.
