Humane Society of Northwest Iowa

The Emmet County Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers that is committed to the adoption, welfare, and protection of companion animals. In NW Iowa and beyond, the ECAS seeks to inform the general public on humane issues impacting both people and dogs.

The Moffitt Animal Shelter exists to provide a temporary haven and shelter for stray, abandoned, and neglected animals. It also promotes humane treatment of dogs and cats through education and is a strong proponent of pet population control.

Volunteers are always needed for a range of tasks. Please message us if you can assist. Fundraising, foster care, construction, cleaning, activity booths, and community service

Small county-owned Calhoun County Canine Shelter receives support from a Friends of the Shelter organization. When necessary, we assist the county's lost and abandoned animals in finding their owners or new homes.

We serve North Central Iowa as a limited intake ("no-kill") facility. We support the necessity of pet spaying and neutering as well as humane education. Neither the state nor the city give money to our group.

Since we first launched our website in 2006, it has received over 1 million visitors, leading to the reunion of literally thousands of dogs, cats, and other animals with their owners or the finding of new, devoted "forever homes."
