The Humane Society of Tennessee Valley has been in operation since 1885, making it the state's oldest animal refuge.

To use TNR (trap-neuter-return), public outreach, and community-based cat care to reduce the number of cats in the Knoxville, Tennessee, area and surrounding counties.

A non-profit group called Happy Paws Kitten Rescue is committed to helping homeless, abandoned, and abused cats in East Tennessee by giving them care, medical attention, and new homes. Tennessee Doberman Rescue Plus (formerly known as A Pinsch of Heaven Doberman Rescue) is an incorporated non-profit 501(c)3 tax exempt organization that is registered and chartered with the state of Tennessee. The group's board is made up entirely of volunteers, as are all of its fosters.
