Humane Society of Eastern Carolina

Pitt County Animal Services' main goals are to protect public health and safety by encouraging citizen education on appropriate pet ownership, to safeguard animals in our community from cruelty and neglect, and to shelter, care for, place, or find humane solutions for animals under its care.

In the fall of 2006, SandHill Beagles Rescue began operations. The rescue is a North Carolina non-profit as well as a federal 501(c)(3) organization. The rescue's goals are to treat animals humanely and assist in finding them homes that are secure and caring.

The Beaufort County Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of Beaufort County are two separate organizations, yet each has a distinct function to carry out. Even though we all have separate responsibilities, we collaborate for the good of all the animals in Beaufort County.

Animals turned in by owners and strays are housed at the Animal Enforcement Division of the Martin County Sheriff's Office where they can either be adopted out or put to death.

Beaufort County Animal Control is a department available to the residents in respect to domestic animal issues.
