To house and feed as many animals as possible; to alleviate the pain of the weak and unloved; to save the hungry, the defenseless, the lost, and the small children who are only trying to survive.

Our goal at Big Sky Happy Tails is to rescue, rehabilitate, and find the ideal forever home for abandoned or forgotten pets. Providing low-cost choices for spaying and neutering while also assisting the neighborhood.

The Missoula Humane Society, the predecessor to the Humane Society of Western Montana, was incorporated in 1963. Over 8,000 animals were seen by the Humane Society annually in the past.

Group of local animal enthusiasts founded the Bitter Root Humane Association in 1972. The organization received land on Fairgrounds Road in 1984 from Countess Margarite Bessenyey, and Betty Cook served as president while volunteers raised funds to construct a shelter.

In Montana, Thompson Falls is where it is. The Thompson River Animal Care Shelter in Northwestern Montana is committed to the welfare of animals.
