Boone Area Humane Society

Education about animal welfare develops knowledge, comprehension, abilities, skills, attitudes, and values related to human involvement in animal welfare.

While owners are being sought, homeless, unwanted, lost, injured, and many other animals can be cared for in a safe and humane environment at the Ames Animal Shelter.

The staff at the Story County Animal Shelter is a hardworking group of people with the shared objective of protecting the county's animals and serving the public.

We serve North Central Iowa as a limited intake ("no-kill") facility. We support the necessity of pet spaying and neutering as well as humane education. Neither the state nor the city give money to our group.

Through its programs, which include pet adoption, humane education, pet behavior training, spay/neuter, animal cruelty intervention, and more, the ARL assists people and animals from all over the state of Iowa.

We are a program of The Pet Project Midwest, a nonprofit group established to support people in keeping their pets at home.
